Help SPS corals dying slowly

Going to dose NO3 because I still have it undetectable.

BTW my poly filter that I put in the sump didn't change a color.

No color change is good news. Dosing nitrate might help. Please keep us posted! It's useful to hear about people's results.

Today for the first time i dosed Nitrates using Potassium Nitrate. I made a solution 1 tea spoon mixed with 250ml of RODI water. Added 2 ml to the sump for now. Will test for Nitrates later and will add more if needed. Aiming for 1 ppm for now.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned it before but I just saw you had 9.8 alk on a low nutrient tank I learned from bio pellets to keep my alk at 7.5-8 dkh or my sps tips would start burning with 0 nitrates and phos

Ok, finally after dosed 60 ml of the solution I got 0.25 on the Red Sea test. Is it safe to go straight to 1 ppm or better do it slowly?

I suspect that 1 ppm of nitrate will be fine. I might shoot for 0.5 ppm, though, since I'm the cautious sort, but probably I'd just go for 1 ppm. A day between doses should be fine as a starting point.

Up to 10ppm nitrates is ok for sps. I wouldn't purposely shoot thst high but .5 or 1ppm is fine. Either one is ok. To me as long as my test kits reads any nitrate I am fine.

The Alk swings you get by letting your alk number fall then raising it quickly with a water change can't be helping. You want your alk # to be as steady as possible. I would definitely get some nitrates in the tank and maybe switch from Red Sea Pro to Regular blue bucket Red Sea salt.

It's not getting any better :( I am throwing away dead corals every week. Tank is getting worst. Now my LPS started to separate from a skeleton. Sand covered in green algae, aptaisia started popping up everywhere. I had couple here and there but never so many before. My room started to smell like ocean at low tide, never before.

I don't know what else to do.

I just read your whole thread and have you checked for stray voltage or rust? I haven't experienced the stray voltage but I did have a magnet start to rust in my algae clip that raised hell. It took me a long time to figure it out but I bought a new algae clip and within a few weeks everything was back to normal.

Well yesterday I start taking **** out of my tank. Found one of my heaters had condensation inside, so i replaced it, removed algae magnet that i was using as rack for my plugs.

I really think it's not about your alk/cal/mag/sg or anything like that and more like something is in your tank. Like I said, it took me a while to figure out what was causing the issue, but I did find it and everything slowly went back to normal. Hopefully you have the same experience.

off topic...what part of long island are you from? I'm in Oakdale

I am from Bethpage

Sps are very finicky. Keep your levels stable. Plus the do like a lot if flow. But I will say one thing. When using Gfo. It's better to use a 1/4 if what you need abd change more often. You don't want the levels bouncing up and Down

And I am in kings park

I hope you right. I just checked for stray voltage and it's 70 Volts !! So I start turning the equipment off and found out that my skimmer leaking 65 volts to the water. I replace it with another one and my whole system now at 10 volts.

I hope this was a problem !

That's both terrible and awesome at the same time. Hopefully your tank makes a turn for the better now!

Ah cool bethpage isn't that far

UPDATE: Sorry I have been busy moving to my new house and didn't really had time to update this. The problem didn't go away, I lost almost all my corals including LPS. The tissue just keep separating from a skeleton. First it was just SPS, then all my torches, now hammerhead. I find tissue floating around the tank every day.

With a new house I build a new 150G tank and moved everything there. I used all new sand and new water. I only transfer the fish and rocks with whatever corals left. It has been a week since in a new tank but the problem is still persist. All parameters are in check. I used same salt to mix new water.
