I have acannon 50d dslr camera, but I know nothing on how to use it. 1st what lens are you using and what settings do you use? Do you move anything in the tank or set up? top down vs through the glass? Color seems off, depth of field is not right. just looking for some help with the how you set up to take photos of your corals and tank as well.

Thank you!

Nice camera. I have one too. :)

My settings won't help you because the lighting in our tanks is different.

I use the 24-70 for fish or 100mm macro lenses for corals generally.

Here are some quick suggestions.

Clean glass inside and out
Shutoff pumps
Shoot straight through the glass
For macros, use a tripod
For macros, use a remote shutter release or self timer
Expose and focus manually if you're up to it
Shoot in RAW mode and set your white balance during post production
Remove the marine snow / detritus from the image

Thank you, I will give it a try. I am looking for a good macro lens soon. fish have been easier to take but I cant seem to get a good pic of the corals.

Personally, I find shooting corals easier than fish, as they generally don't move all over or get spooked and hide. Corals do pucker up their polyps if disturbed though.

Don't forget to give this sticky a going over: how to

And do post a pic or two, especially ones you're having issues with. People here are very helpful and kind.
