help - tang is stuck in overflow

He's a small guy and he's hiding behind the 2 pipes, so I can't get a net down there to get him - everytime I try, he swims behind the pipes and I can't get him.

Has anyone had to deal with this and how so?

Do you have any plastic sheet laying around, or something to block with? Maybe a glass scraper minus the blade to herd him into the net? How big is the fish?

I had a Percula in my overflow. I pulled out the standpipe and "woosh" down to the basement in my sump it went. Once there I grabbed it out and brought it back to the display. He may be smaller than your small tang though.

Kinda sounds like your typical cave/water slide scene out of a movie... lol

Good luck getting the tang out!

I tried to get my hand down there, but it will only fit a portion of the way - my arms are a bit too big.

I will have to look around, but I don't think I have any plastic

He's about 3", I so I might be able to get him into the sump

This should be easy. Get a tiny flyfishing hook and attach some line. Bait the hook with a shrimp and fish him out. Just like when you were a kid at the local pond catching bluegill by the boat load.:frog:

Seriously, it works. Tangs are greedy eaters.

I shut down the return pump and drained it - that worked great!

I tried feeding him but I think he was too spooked - he wouldn't leave that area behind the pipes. So if draining it didn't work, I was going to remove them - luckily I didn't have to.

thanks for your ideas everyone!

I have a Friend from Hawaii... they call Yellow tangs .... bait robbers....

as they are fishing they come up and steal your bait and never get hooked....
