Help: Two Maroon Clownfish

Okay So i've had a gold stripe maroon clown for a while, pretty big now, and i decided to get another maroon clown to see if they will pair up. So i got another Goldstripe maroon clown today, smaller of course (noticably smaller) and acclimated it and put it in the tank. As soon as he was put in the tank the older clown swam up to him and they started what looks like "nipping" at each other, and then chasing eachother around... I'm guessing thats a bad thing. I obviously took the small clown back out and am asking you guys for advice... what should i do?

Maroon clowns can be hard to pair. What size are they? One way to try would be to get a clear plastic container, drill or make holes in it for water movement, place it in the tank with the smaller maroon in it. The larger maroon can look at it but not get to it. Leave it like this for a few days, or when the larger one gets used to the smaller one being there.

Clowns will fight for dominance. Once the order is established, they'll settle down. I added both my black ocellaris clowns at the same time. They fought for about a month, then, once one got much bigger than the other, they settled down.

maroon clowns are mean as heck, i think they are the worst to introduce to a tank, you might try shaking the old ones up by taking them out of the tank for a few days and dropping them in the sump.

ive seen maroons really mess up another clown before and its not cool to see.

i wouldnt wait for things to get better, just shake em up a bit then put them back in the display.

if you can rearange the tank and keep an eye on them. they will fight pretty good untill the smaller one learns its place at the bottom of the totem pole. some times the larger wont accept the newcomer at all and it will kill it.

get an in-tank breeder cage and put the larger one in it for a day or two so it can get used to seeing the new one in the tank. It's what worked for me. They are now a mated pair.
