i posted this in the LPS forums too but since this place gets more traffic mind as well...

my closed brain's skeleton is kinda showing. right now i dont have it attached or glued to the rock its just sitting there and yesterday i noticed a section touching the rock started to receed. today the skeleton was showing and the color was dissappearing around that area. wen i picked it up there was huge copepod taking up residence under the frag, could that be the problem?
anyways here are some pics...

Maybe too much flow? Have you moved it to a new spot in the tank recently? I've seen similar recession in a plate coral on the side that was exposed to strong flow.

Now that's something I never thought of!! I have a green brain that went to almost nothing. I blamed it on lighting (too much) so I moved the brain to my HOB fuge (made it into a hospital tank). Since then, the tissue that remained has taken off and it looks rather nice again.

I guess these brains like nice shallow, sheltered areas. How do they do in somewhat dirty lagoon regions?

i had it sitting in the same spot ever since i got it, and i havent added any new powerheads or increased the flow on any of my vortechs.

can amphipods eat brains? someone else told me that he had a problem w/ amphipods munching on their zoas, and i found this huge one right under it wen i went to inspect it yesterday.

i just fed it yesterday acctually, it took the food soon after i moved it off the rock it was on and placed it on eggcrate. ive had for 6 months.

just to be sure about my alk i raised it from 8.2 dkh to about 9 dkh to account for inaccuracy of test kits. i heard low alk can cause the leading tissue to receed.
