Help w/ Corals

TLF glue is good, but i prefer a little more thickness. Ive tried IC Gel wih excellent results, but not everyone carries it. Was recently informed of Loctite from HD but havent tried it yet.

The Loctite gel works well. That said, the IC Gel is a bit thicker, given it the edge when you have the option ;)

I have endless access to gloves, but dont know if i trust latex, nitrile, vinyl or other medical style gloves and its components in my tank. other commercial for fish tank ones are too bulky for fine work, imho.

I've used the nitrile lab gloves for fragging. I find the latex don't hold up as well. No tank issues from either.

corals giving off a lot of mucus and not really opening well... pics below

params look ok. - in the last 24 hours I did recently raise the pH from 7.9 to 8.0 in prep for transfer to display. I have a ref. light on them looks like 75w -

not sure whats going on with them.

i change water daily from qt to sewer - display to qt.

thinking about biting the bullet and throwing them in but my anomonenenene isn't acting correct either making me really question my water quality - at 2 am in the morning.

I've got school all day in Miami tomorrow.

People use a variety of things for snips. I have several different kinds.
I agree with the others about not putting them in qt after they have been dipped.

dang fine point sir - massive error in my logic,

on the snips, thanks for the link - I need to invest in that kit -any stop-gap suggestions in the mean time? I'm in Deerfield - there isn't a lot in the way of aquarium stores. i suppose you mean snipping (prying) the coral off the frag plug?

You acclimated really well; I recommend a dip and a temporary frag rack.

After just gazing at their sps stock online, I finally bought from them at MACNA. I dipped in Bayer and acclimated for temperature and alkalinity but lost two that were already stressed (2 out of 33); each time I use Bayer my corals experienced loss of color. I do my best not to move them around while acclimating to the new tank but I find that a temporary frag rack in the display tank makes adjustments to light and flow a lot easier if needed before permanent placement. They recuperated on the rack and are now beginning to light up the tank pending permanent placement (some belong to Marvin unless accidentally glued to my rocks, LOL).

I bought from them again on the live sale (Wednesday delivery) ;-)

Looking for a shipment tracking number just realized that by mistake I set up to ship next Tuesday 10/22, I have another week to wait :-( 

the corals are going in today.

My plan is to take display water.

Dip them into Brightwell Lugol's Coral Dip at the concentrations indicated by the directions.

From there they will go into another dip of just Tank water to wash off the Coral Dip and then into the display.

Anyone see an issue with that procedure?

Ok. So far so good. All the corals have stopped secreting mucus and fully opened. Most of the tissue looks pretty good. I'd like a little more color from some of them but its 26 hours since they were put in.

Here are some pics. As of now there are zero casualties. However, I do have a single polyp zoa frag that hasn't opened and I'm pretty doubtful - if it doesn't open during this photo period I'm writing it off. I'm a little disappointed that they even sent it with just one.

Hotwash: The 6 day acclimation was too long and laborious and inflicted too much stress on the corals. I would probably do a 48 hour "rest and recovery period" with several water changes from the display and several dips. I saw numerous creatures fall off to incude a nasty Pycnogonid. So the dips are well worth it.

Anyways, thanks to you all for the help, time, and advice. For anyone whom I didn't address directly, its only brevity of time that precluded me from acknowledging your comments, but thanks again!

p.s. I apologize in advance for my awful photography skills

Glad to hear that they are doing good. It's amazing what comes off during a dip. Some of the little creatures are very good at hiding.
