Found this little guy dead today. He had this for a couple of days, but it didn't look this bad. Maybe 2-3. I thought it was a damaged scale, so I didn't think much of it.

I didn't realize it was alive until I took the fish out of the tank. They moved slightly. I put the fish in freshwater ( it was already dead ) and within 30 seconds, the white jelly like thing fell off dead.

I don't have any other fish in the tank at the moment, so I'm not too concerned. But i would like to add a fish sometime soon without fear of this parasite.

If anyone knows what this is, please ID and inform me a treatment.

Thanks in advance.

Thx Bret. Yeah, just ordered it to keep it handy. Luckily I only had one fish, so I think I will starve the flukes but not adding livestock for a month or more. I'm also adding 2 cleaner shrimps and maybe a pair of neon gobies. Hopefully that will clean my tank without chemicals before I add livestock again.

Worse case, I'll use PraziPro.

I wouldn't add the neon gobies just yet, they can get infected themselves ;) The cleaner shrimp are good, they will eat those suckers :) The most common flukes we see in our tanks are livebearers and have a pretty short life cycle. So a month without fish will typically starve them right out. Even if it's one of the egg laying species, they eggs typically hatch within a week, so a month without fish will starve them out.

I always treat new fish with prazi. Yould be suprized how often they come in with internal paracytes.
