I have had a maxima clam for about a week. Its about 2 inches long, aquacultured.

It wasent attached to a rock when i got him.
For the 5 days Ive had a rock under him.
He attached one day then let go, and did a spit/jump type thing and landed sideways
I propped him back up. Ive kept trying this with same results for days.

Today it seems like hs mouth is more open than usual. he is laying on his side right this minute, he moved agian and hes not attached to anything.

i think i need some advice here, would really appreciate it.

Thanks!
maggie

Check for pyramid snails at night with a lite,if so brush them off very lightly with a soft tooth brush. If there are no snails you can try a fresh water dip for 30 min. make sure the temp ans ph are the same. You can also try feeding it fresh phytoplankton.
Good luck.

i wouldnt dip the clam

try placing the rock you are setting it on an inch under the sand and pile a little sand up around the clam to help hold it in place

i dident dip it. Ive been on the look out for snails and havent seen any. Ill try the buried rock thing. :) thanks

I agree with mbbuna. I've never seen anything good out of a dip unless it is PM. Some people also put a small tile under the sand and the clam on it and they usually attach to it. I don't put anything under my maximas and they do fine. I've had them for a few years now.

jay24k.. so yours just rest on the sand?? very interested as it seems mine doesent want a rock.

It shows great feeding responces to dt's, but wont attach

My maxima has never attached. I put him on a tabling rock for several weeks. He doesn't move around but never attaches. It is a smaller maxima as well. I just moved it back down to the sand and he is fine also. I've had it for almost 3 years and 2 months I had it on the rock with no attachments.

My croceas now will attach overnight.

Im totally bummed out.

Ive only had this clam about 2 weeks. Today I wake up, and theres about 4 hermits inside the clam eatting it, and a bummblebee snail eatting it from the bottom side.

It just ate yesterday, it was very responsive, and now its just plain dead. 1/2 gone.

really bummed out.. :(

all perimeters are the same as always...

salinity 1.024
nitrate 10
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
phos- 0
calcium 420
alk- 2.5 meq/l

*sigh* A year in finally, thought i could handle it!!

dt's oyster eggs it reacted really well to. I tried marine snow but dident get any reaction. I occasionally add kents photomax to the tank...

I don't know about DT'S oyster eggs if they're good for clams or not but I do know I brought some 1.5" clams to 4-5 " feeding fresh phytoplankton directly in a bowl.Anyway this is the sad part of our hobby, often times no matter what you do critters die on us.

ugh. its like watching a bunch of vutures. theres at least 7 hermits tearing it apart there almost done with the mantle :(

I figure ill use the shell for gsp's or somthin. '

yuk :(
