Help with Algae Id

I haven’t been able to find a positive id on the net yet so I'm hoping someone may know what this is and what I can do to get rid of it.

This is some bad stuff however it's fairly slow growing so at least I have that going for me... It's somewhat soft but very difficult to remove; even pulling it won’t remove all of it. It also seems to like just the rock, haven’t seen any of it on the gravel or glass.

looks like regular hair algae. It's caused from excess nutrients in the water, I would try to feed a little less and do some regular water changes to lower the nitrate level. You may not be getting any readings for nitrate since the algae is consuming it

I've had hair algae and it doesnt look anything like that. Another thing is that it doesnt get any taller than what's shown but it does get fuller.

rkelman, I have a hippo but he only nibbles it so he's not helping much. I'm pondering on getting a blonde naso since they seem to eat just about any type of algae and see how that works.

Bryopsis pennata? maidenhair? both are too light and feathery.

Maybe Chaetomorpha crassa. Cladophora prolifera
I have the same thing confined to one rock. It is like astroturf right? Semi slow growing? really gets into the rock?I would like to grow this out in my fuge, so I am saving my piece

Yeah polyppetey, its sorta like astro turf and like you stated, it really gets in the rock. Have you found anything that eats it?
