Help with cabinetry and soundproofing

I contacted a cabinet maker to design a stand for my 65 gallon. The two items I don't have a lot of experience with are the paint and soundproofing. The cabinet guy suggested we use a 2-part polyurethane or automotive clear coat to seal the wood on the stand because it is the hardest type of pain (#6)? I read a lot of DIY stand threads and people used cheap enamel or whatever they could find at lowes - but I never saw any follow up beyond the initial painting job which always looks nice.

I also wanted to try and reduce tank noise by lining the doors and shelf surfaces where the sump will sit. Any suggestions on a durable sound dampening material? I thought neoprene but am really open to any suggestion.

Finally, on sound dampening for the return pump. I know a couple guys tried some sort of silicone or neoprene gaskets. If anyone has tried to quiet their return pumps if you could pass along what works.

Thanks

I was able to house a couple pieces with amherstbias, who has been awesome. He kept the couple of coral i couldnt sell. I just got my tank down to SC earlier this month. The stand was so huge I had no way to move it. To set up again, I need the stand (custom/cad lights), sump (trigger sysyems 30s elite), and lights (2x radions). I also picked up a apex last week. Job is great too, hopefully you have the same luck here soon boost.

Yeah your old stand was too tall imo, nice getting all the baller stuff. If you have a build thread lmk.

I didnt mention a dslr on that list. I think before i start another thread ill have to add some decent camera equip. I actually was considering another high stand ~38 inches. Will be an elos style knockoff with a narrow electrical cabinet built into one side.

For sound deadening I'd take a look at some of the car audio matting, dyna mat etc.

Very interesting idea Stu. There are some guys on the car forums who've used roofing Ice & water shield. It could work perfectly because it already has an adhesive back that I assume is industrial strength.

Wife and I are very pleased with noise level, or lack thereof. Pretty quiet system considering its all in one spot, tanks, sump, skimmer, etc...

Is there any way you can snap a pic of the area you used the silicone pads in? I'm trying to get a visual of what you did.
