Help with hood

I am building a hood that will house two 250W Metal Halide bulbs and some actnic and flourescent lights. I was wondering how tall the hood should be so that it doesnt cause my tank to overheat. I am going to install fans but also figure how close they are to the water has something to do with it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Between 6 to 10 inches off the water should be good. With good ventlation you shoud have no problem.

i was told a mininum of 10 but i could be wrong
