help with identity of orange algae

We have this rubbery red/orange algae in our 30 gallon QT tank. It is currently a hair algae propagation tank and houses our sick BTA and two aptasia hungry peppermints. My wife wonders if it would be something we could put in our display though we do have a tellow tang and a fat algae blenny. The stuff looks like lettuce and the pic is a patch about the size of a nickel. Feels like rubber. Thanks,
Jim

It sure is cool looking. Hope you get an answer soon. A closer pic and maybe pics from different angles would be helpful!!

I had a red macro turn that color if it didn't get enough light. Never got an ID on it though.

Someone posted something like that a while back but I cant recall if an id was provided.

You mean the Distromium thread? It does look a bit similar or maybe its padina? Not sure. Is it thin or fleshy?

Thanks for trying guys, it has me wondering. I got a suggestion from Professor M.D. Guiry that it could be eggs of some kind also. I don't know of what since the only thing in the tank was peppermint shrimp. It is like rubbery lettuce leaves.
Thanks again.

It looks like Padina is smoother on the edges where Distromium looks more ruffled. Mine looks more like the Blue Distromium from the thread and odly enough is as fluoresced. The picture I took is under 10K flourescence. I bet it would look awesome under my oceanpro t5's. So, should I put it in my display and see how it goes? Think my yellow tang will munch on it?
Thanks.

I would definitely not trust a tang with that. Not to sound like a punk but are you willing to sell it? Or frag it... haha maybe that's asking too much. Actually that would be pretty entertaining if you fragged that and video taped it. Like doing open heart surgery on a mouse which I have sort of done. Anyway I really like algae and I am setting up a new tank to grow algae so let me know.

PS
I remember I once bought some stuff from samala and she was really nice but she seems like a big shot around here so I am a little shy because I always have questions to ask so here is a little random side note to see if she sees this. Haha.

i have some of that macro in my tank from time to time. it will appear out of nowhere, and will occasionally grow to a few inches then just disappear. a year or so later, it will reappear somewhere else. ive never seen any fish go anywhere near it though.

yes, a sailfing and a bristletooth. keep in mind though that i said i have never SEEN them go near it. doesnt necessarily mean they dont
