Help with LAN card

I've tried posting this in the aquariumcomputer forum. We've hit a bit of a brick wall. I can't seem to get my LAN card to work in connecting my system to my Profilux. I'm running XP and using a crossover cable to directly connect my LAN card to the Profilux. I've tried all kinds of iterations with setting the IP address for the Profilux. I've shut down my firewall. Still can't seem to make it work. Can anyone who has a similar setup go through all the steps they took to connect to the Profilux, please?

I just replied. It's not that I don't appreciate his help. But, I'm thinking that maybe someone else has had a similar problem and solved it. If someone has a similar setup, maybe they could help or maybe I'm just missing something.
