HELP !!!!!with light advice .....maxpect or chinese leds

Tom,
see that bright glare coming out from under the led fixtures you pictured in your last post? Compare that to this:

And even at a lower angle it looks like this:

Try that shot with any led fixture that has glass between the leds and the water... it will have a blinding glare! If you aren't putting the fixtures in a canopy, you should consider these! I switched form 3 EverGrow D120's (same as the RB 'value fixture') to these and wouldn't consider going back.

They aren't a sponsor here... yet. But I've been told they will be soon. OK, moderators, please don't ding me, I'm answering a direct question, right?

It's the OceanRevive Arctic S026. They are a distributor for EverGrow (because EG has a full line of fixtures) and OR has this single entry into the market (a basic dimmer only full spectrum fixture).

ok .........lights are sold so upwards and onwards ..............
now the decision on what to get ,I have approx. 400 dollars to upgrade
for the 90 gal tank ......
I have been looking at a few lights in my price range with some help from u guys
what shall I pick ........suggestions

I have the reefbreeders and LOVE them. I can't stand glare or light spill either, so I built a sweet canopy that matches my stand to house the lights. The LEDs hang from brackets mounted on top of the canopy. There are holes cut in the top above the fans of the fixtures for ventilation.

The blues are the only thing on in the second pic, and the color is not at all accurate in the pic, so don't let that scare u :)

IMHO here are the top 3 choices:

1) 1 EverGrow IT2080 - $450 and a controller (don't spend the extra unless you really want the sunrise & sunset ability of the controllers). I just happen to like it.

2) 2 OceanRevive Arctic S026 - $350 (total) and dimmers

3 2 EverGrow D120 - $320 (total) and dimmers

Thanks ron.....
Trying to decide on the 2 -16 fixtures or the 32
With the controller ........
Will the 32 cover a 48 length tank and 24 deep
Or should I just get the 16s.
Help me out here guys
Thanks
Tom

Tom,

Some, like me, will tell you the 32 will cover the 48" (more or less with some exceptions and conditions). And others will say the 32 isn't long enough. Either way, 2 of the 16's is better, just a fair bit more expensive (assuming you mean 16's with controllers). The basic 16" lights would be less expensive by a fair amount.

hey

hey

That's where I'm stuck I don't want to order the 32 and have it not
Be enough....
The plus with the 32 is the controller
Where as if I buy two values with no controllers then I don't get the
Option so this is where I'm stuck.... unless I can get some sort of
Controller for both of the value fixtueres....
Or do I re eally need the controllers......
Anybody with a 48 and a 32 fixture on the tank ....

Tom, go for the 48" light. That solves your coverage issue and it should be enough to grow most anything, even at 24" deep.

Only Reef Breeders sell the 48" and it's about 10% more than the 32" with the same number of leds just stretched out longer.

I recently bought a Arctic SO26 and Bo the dealer is awesome. I mentioned how I don't like the Pink look and he is sending me out the LEDS to remove the following
3.5k and 6.5k LEDs . He's stand up and great service. OceanRevive...sweet!

After having the LEDs I have now, I wouldn't buy any other brand for any reason. But if your going to buy another fixture, save yourself the headache and buy a 48" Photon. Better controlability and color than Razors, and a better light IMHO. Maxspect makes an ok light, buy missed the mark in a lot of ways.... Photon is the way to go on a budget, period
Why do you say Maxspect missed the mark in a lot of ways? Can you explain?

Here's an analysis of the R420r (Razor) light spectrum (16K). I don't see a problem with the spectrum though the 10K and 8K are higher in the 450-700 range.

I'm leaning to getting either 2 160w models or 3 120w models to light my 180 reef (SPS, LPS, clam and softies, tank is 72x24x24).

The reason I'm undecided is the tank has two braces, 24" apart. With the two 160w lights, will the braces cast a shadow? I know they will not with the 120w lights but (con) the cost is higher but (pro) they will provide more PAR.

Oh, one more item, reading Sanjay's analysis, the 160w actually draws 192w and the 120 is higher as well (don't know those numbers).
