Help with my BTA -- How do I get it out?

I put a small BTA in my tank last Saturday and hadn't seen it since late last Saturday night. Well I found him today. He is hosting my AGA internal overflow.

Normally I would say no problem to get him out but he is in that small gap between the inner and outer plastic of the overflow. Only a small portion of his tentacles are showing. Tried to get him out earlier by sweeping him out with the back end of a spoon but he just released and went back down. Now he is back up with some of his tentacles visible.

Can he get out himself (this would mean that he would have to come out of the water since the top of the overflow is higher than the water line. Will he take himself out of the water like that to get back into the tank?) or what should I do.

TIA

I have heard, (but never tried) that applying ice to the foot will make them release. Not sure how much room you have to work with. He's not going to come out of the water to get back in. I would like to see a pic of this so I could help more. Could you somehow make a shelf out of eggcrete that he would go on, then you could remove him? Or some of that stuff in Finding Nemo's Website for covering powerheads?
