Help with my Coral Beauty

Hi ya'll. This is my first time post, however, I have been following this forum for many months now.

My tank is a few months old now and I just purchased a Coral Beauty two days ago. I got it home and noticed it had Ich. I had QT already set up so I acclimated and began lowering salinity to treat via Hypo. Things are going well on that front but here is where my questions comes in. Aside from the Ich spots, the CB's left gill looks to be sort of scuffed? The scales look a tad bit raised. That is the only way I can seem to describe it. I can't seem to get a decent picture of it either as the CB has taken to hiding only when I try to get a picture. :lmao:

I cannot find any information anywhere that parallels with what I am seeing. Someone on another forum had the same issue but asked about it in a non-related thread therefore it was never answered. Any help would be appreciated.

Without a picture, it’s really hard to say. It could just be an injury from collection/transit, or something more. Flukes is a possibility, but hypo will take care of them. 5 days at .009.

Any picture, good or bad, would be helpful in diagnosing further.

This is the best photo I could get.

I've never seen a coral beauty without a parasite they are ick magnets as Justinm mentioned above hypo @1.009 will do the job. Except treat for 30 days for ick in hypo you can dose some stress gaurd to the tank during hypo to help with secondary infection it has a anticeptic in it. There are other products like Acriflavin that are anticeptic also but probably best used in a bath

Thanks for the responses! That white area on the gills seems to have darkened up today and I just witnessed it flashing twice on that same side. Not sure if that helps with the diagnosis or if that is just common with ich.

Anyways, I'll be sure to continue with hypo for at least a month and will look into Acriflavin as you mentioned. Thanks again.

I'll also add that the gills can become swollen with the ick in there and cause some discoloration a fresh water dip might give the fish a little relief and help clear the gills a bit

Ok, I am back with a better"ish" picture. CB has been in hypo for about 1.5 weeks. All ich spots seem to have fallen off so far, but the "fluffiness" around the gills has gotten larger. This picture makes the color look more gray, however, it actually is very white.

Any ideas? Would a FW dip still be a good option?

Sorry to hear about your cb..but they are quite hardy if you can find a healthy one..I had one for almost five years till it gave up, it never once had Ick ..Good luck with yours I hope it pulls through..

Methylene blue bath could help deliver oxygen to the gills, an Acriflavin bath could deliver anticeptic to the gills or dose stress gaurd to the tank this has an anticeptic in it. I would consider any of these options. Keep the hypo going At least 30 days
