Help with new 125 gallon build

Well good news, my CREE LED lights showed up this morning, a kind neighboor down the street from me brought them over as they were delivered to her house instead. Thats a big relief. One thing though i'm dissapointed about is the fact that no controllers came with the lights which i thought were included. I've emailed customer service to see whats going on.

Customer service replied back to me saying that the units I purchased do not come with controllers, they come with 2 power cords, one for blue and one for white. I wish that was more clear on the website.

tassod, I thought the price you quoted for the lights with the controllers was too good to be true as I paid close to 2X that price. Unfortunately you can't just add the controllers to the ones that you have received as the light that works with the controller only has one power cord.

Could i still use these or are they not good? Would i be able to use them with an APEX neptune controller?

I don't know if you can use them with an APEX neptune controller someone else with experience in APEX may chime in.

So basically if understand correctly, the controller is able to adjust the intensity of the LED's, is that all it does? My units basically just turn on and off with the same intensity.

An Apex will be able to turn them on/off at different times of day, but I don't know that it can control intensity if they are dimable.

The controller that I have with my 48x3W is called a solar simulator which not only controls when the white and blue lights come on and off but also controls the intensity of each color at different times of the day to simulate sunrise and sunset. So it is more than just a timer or a dimmer.

May be you should try to contact Eshine to see if any timer and/or dimmer that can be used with your light.

I sent them an email, we'll see what they say.

I ordered 1" sched 80 PVC bulkheads from BRS and they arrived today. However, when i tried to fit them they seem a bit to large and wont go in. Am I missing something here? What is the difference between these 1" bulkheads and the standard ones besides them being more durable? I would thing the size should be the same and they should fit. Marineland RR tanks are drilled with 1.75" standard hole for 1" bulkheads.

I also picked up the tank for my sump tonight...it definitely needs a good scrubbing.

BRS shows their sch 80 1" bulkhead needs to have a 1.88" hole for installation which explains why the tank's 1.75" holes are too small for the sch 80 1" bulkheads.

:headwallblue: So much for me paying attention...Anyone interested in some Schedule 80 1" bulkheads? :spin1:

Probably will have to pay return shipping on this...

Eshine said they do not have any controllers for these units. I guess since I'm planning on using an Apex controller i will just have to use these to turn on at different times without the intensity function.

Sump design

Sump design

Can i get a recommendation on how to design the sump/fuge? Some people have the return in the middle some dont. Are there advantages to doing that or is it just a preference?

Since I will be using the BM NAC 7 Skimmer, how big should my compartment be for the skimmer section? Also, how big should the fuge and return be? My sump again is a 48 X 17 X 12.5
