Hello All :wavehand:, just joined about an hour ago!! I am really excited to be a member. I recently bought a green bubble tip nem. Slow drip acclimated for 4.5 hours. All water parameters are perfect . T5 ho 50/50 and daylight lamps. After putting nem in tank it immediately attached its foot to a piece of my live rock. I have a male and female paired cinnamon clown fish who hosted the nem within two hours. The only worry I have is that on day two everything seemed perfect and all the sudden his mouth opened and he completely deflated. While deflated the clowns continued to swim in the nem and it looked really terrible tho never lost its color. After about an hour it opened back up and bubbled back up beautifully. His mouth closed back up nice and tight and he looks great. Is this a concern i should have or is this normal? thanks in advance for any help or any info you can give. -Greg, Baltimore MD

really ? so clowns can cause anemone to deflate or stress ? why is that ?

three things i see here two of them could go wrong.

1) you generally should wait a year until you get an anemone (i dont know how old the tank is so im assuming sorry)

2) how big is the anemone? maroons can be rough with the anemone they associate with. it generally should be 3X their size

3) that sort of sounds like it was releasing waste. did stuff come out of its mouth?

the tank is just a year old and the anemone is about 4 1/2 " in diameter plus the length of its tentacles .... it can fit only only one of my two cinnamon clowns comfortably they kinda take turns...but i did feel like the anemone was annoyed w clowns when it was deflating .... yes some stringy goo like substance came from its mouth

most likely it was just expelling waste. but id watch out with those clowns

ok thanks a million should i try a larger anemone or is it likely this one can handle them so long as i keep an eye out

it may be able to make it youll be able to tell if it isnt gonna work out. at that point either you can isolate it or trade it in

Definitely sounds like expelling waste as mentioned above. I would feed the anemone and make sure it has a grabbing/feeding response. Plus it will help make it happy in its new home too :)

[welcome]

well his mouth opened again tonight at the exact same time as last night almost to the minute and it deflated for an hour and then reinflated . is it very likely that he is just expelling water and cycling in new fresher water? his foot is tightly secured to the exact spot i placed him in three days ago when i bought him and is still very bright green
