Help with pump selection.

Anyone,

I know there is a search function, but it is not running (for me anyhow) so, if you can, please give me a little help.

I need a pump suggestion (in-sump) for my 120 gal., dual overflow AGA tank. The sump sits directly below the tank and is 35 gallons.

My price range is up to 200 dollars.

Thank you

VM

Does anyone have experience with Gen-X submersible pumps. I have read good reviews from users and am strongly considering their product.

Thanks

If you are looking for a good return pump, then an Eheim 1260/1262 would be a good choice. They are quiet, reliable and have minimal heat transfer.

I have an eheim1262.

It's run 3+ years.

Unbelievably quiet and trouble free.

It replaces a string of noisy / broken Mag 7s

I'm setting up a 120 gal also. I am going to run the plumbing to the basement where the sump and a frag tank will be set up. The return will be a 15 foot head with one check valve and two 90 degree bends in it. Total water volume will be 170 gal. Do ya'll think a Iwaki MD-100RLT will handle it ?

andyco,

Someone suggested a 1262 would be too much for my 120 AGA. Have you had any issues with it on a smaller tank. I am going to get it this week and cannot decide between the 1260 and 1262.

thanks

I dont know about either of these, but Ive been running a mag 9.5 rated at 950 gph with and I am currently surching for something a little stronger for my 120g (under developement) The eheim 1262 is only rated at 898gph at zero head with a maximum head of 11.8 ft.

I dont know if 898 gph is strong enough for your tank. Remember each overflow is rated at 600 gph= 1200gph

For a tank that size, mag 12 or 18 would be great. I am running a mag 12 on my 125 and I love it! I would run a mag 18 return, but I plan to add a closed loop in the near future, so I will add another mag 9.5 or 7... I have never used eheim, but have heard nothing but good things about them also. Another option is QuietOne. All of the above are withing ur budget and EXCELLENT PUMPS! HTH! :)

Hey. you could also look into a Ocean runner 6500. (1700 gph/ max head of 12.5ft/ only 95 watts and about $99.00) Also everyone who has one says nothing but good things and even compare it to the Eheim only it cost about 50% less)

Ok, thats it. I just convinced myself. I'm getting one.!!!

I appreciate the advice and options presented. As with any piece of equipment for my reef, there are several viable options to go with. Sometimes I wish there was only one as it would make the decission process simpler. I have looked into the Ocean runner, but have not heard much about their overall reliability. (More precisely, I haven't seen enough reviews). I now need to sit back and just make up my mind and go with it.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered the Ocean Runner 6500; it is more flow than I needed but I'will be able to control that better than too little flow.
