So I received my replacement EB8 in the mail today. I saved the configuration from the old unit, shutdown and connected the new one. Once it was up, I loaded the configuration to the new one and waited.... Pumps turned on after what seemed to be a reboot, then turned off again after a few mintues. The indicator light is green and everything looks normal. But my devices are not turning on... I rebooted manually once more and the same thing happend. What am I missing? The time is correct and all setting look fine....

Help please :eek2:

Chickened out... Reconnected the old unit and everything has returned to normal... What is wrong with the replacement unit??!!

It probably came up as a different number - if your original EB8 was 3, this new one probably came up as 4 or 5. You can tell by looking at the outlet setup screen. There should be a bunch of new outlets with the default names.

If that's the case, contact Neptune. They can telnet into your controller and re-number the EB8.

I can telnet into my system, do you happen to know the commands needed? I did see new outlets but once I loaded the configuration file they went away.

Try this:

1. save your configuration
2. unplug your old EB8 and plug in the new EB8. It will likely get the next number in the bus, not what you want.
3. from the module setup screen, delete that EB8. That should delete the stored bus number inside it.
4. unplug the EB8, wait a few seconds then plug it in
5. hopefully it will get the lower number once it initializes
6. reload your saved configuration

That won't work Alan; once an EB8 is connected to the Apex is 'remembers' it's address so a simple delete of the smaller number won't reorder the addresses.

The good news is there is a way but you need to Init the unit.

1) Connect the new EB8 - it will get a new address (likely 4)
2) Go to the Setup, Init page and perform and Initialize AquaBus

The Init command will clear the address space then poll the Aquabus for modules, assigning them in default order. Since you only had 1 EB8 the new one will get moved to the 1st position.

Actually I believe it will and will not impact everything else on your controller. And to be clear, he needs to delete the new higher numbered module not the lower numbered module. Deleting a module will clear both the module's bus number and it's associated base module serial number which are stored in the module. This is how it should have been setup when shipped from Neptune but wasn't. When it gets reconnected, it thinks it's connected to a new base unit and gets assigned the next bus number. I believe that initializing the AB will clear the base module's memory, profiles, probe calibrations and program but the S/N of the base module and the bus number of the EB8 are still stored in the EB8 and are not cleared, which is the root problem.

Does anyone know that hours Neptune Systems support is open? I get home late and need to know how late I can contact them. It doesn't say on their site.

EB8's remember the serial number of the Apex they connected and the address they where given so that on power loss and reconnect they will always get back to the same address. AB Init clears the values and performs a poll on the AB. Logs, Profiles, controller memory are not affected but program would be cleared because you are in effect clearing all connected modules but the OP mentioned they have saved program and that would restore everything.

I ran this on my system here and it did NOT reset calibrations; only module addresses and program.

Connected replacement EN8

Logged into web-server

Configuration -> Module Setup

Deleted both EB8 - 3 and EB8 - 4

-Confirmed by watching each disappear from list

Configuration -> Load/Save

Upload Saved Configuration file.

Done

I am extremely happy with the service I received from Neptune Systems. Curt was a great help and calmly put-up with my banter. Helped me through the RMA process. Helped me with the above process to get the replacement working.
