Hello all,

So my birthdays coming up in a couple weeks and my amazing girlfriend decided she would get me a pair of clownfish f9r my birthday! I would just like to confirm that these are in fact the type of fish they claim...
Was told they're snowflake onyx clowns and they're for a stupid good price right now which makes it all that much more exciting...

Anyways here's the picture I was sent of them.
Would like to double confirm that they are in fact snowflake onyx clowns! Thanks for the help!

They are bred to look that way.
Anyone can call them anything they want...

If you like the way they look and the price is right then enjoy them!

They are very pretty!

Well I'd like to think my lfs is reputable and trustworthy... they told me the clowns were from sustainable aquatics and after looking into the company they seem fairly legit... so how do I know if these are in fact juvenile snowflake onyx?

Thank you I thought they were really awesome looking myself that's why I wanted to double check n confirm I didn't buy some fish that looks pretty but isn't what they sold it as haha lol

sound juvenile to me.

Maybe someone who is more into designer clown fish will weigh in soon.

But to me. Its just breeding for a pattern. The name is irrelevant.

Okay thank you I appreciate the insight... and yes I do agree it's basically just a series of cross breeds to come up with the markings people like... kinda like alot of the dogs we have now days were bred to have specific traits the wanted...

I just want to make sure that these are a version of a snowflake onyx because the price I can get them for seems really great to me... but if they were just regular snowflakes or something else then the price wouldn't be that great at all lol

Definitely Snow Onyx...just not a premium or extreme pair but a very nice pair of clowns. Extra wide white band with black trim indicates the onyx mix over a reg snowflake... although there is not really much different between the lines

SA is a totally legit company just make sure they are actually SA clowns. I have heard of stores selling SA or PRO Clowns, MAC and ORA items before that aren't really from the source. If you trust your LFS then get them... very nice looking fish.

The one main frame clown looks borderline Blackice to me with the center band coloration. I have a pair of PRO clowns, Extreme Blacker Ice and Extreme Frostbite... you cannot get nicer clowns than PRO or SA in my opinion... their extremes are fantastic.

I got mine from a local reefer who got them direct from AlphaAqua and included the numbered filed and video from the site to match them.

In the end if you like the coloration of them and you are ok on the price... get them! My clowns are my favorite fish in my tank.

Awesome thank you so much for taking a min to confirm the fish and explain your reasoning! I'm still pretty much a newbie to the hobby n just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting played... The lfs had a pair really similar to these this last weekend for their 3rd anniversary sale ( and were on sale) for 200... so later after the sale they posted a opportunity to do a group buy for our local reef forum on facebook and they offered to order two more for me for $120... so not only am I super excited for the new fish but the price seems pretty friggen awesome to me!!! :) :) :)

Thank you again and HAPPY REEFING!!!

FYI: I would be very cautious of the "group buy" ... because you will not see the fish you are actually buying. The ones you pictured match the snow onyx but if you look even a few threads down in this forum you will see posts about "group buy" experiences where they bought and paid for fish and got something other than they thought and couldn't take them back because they were a group buy... they were also SA fish but premium Picasso pair. so i would make sure you can see the fish or buy a level up to ensure you get what you think you are getting sight unseen...

Also...For the pair you showed i would have expected $150 for the pair so that is a good price... $75 per fish is ballpark.

Going to get them now... will definitely be watching and inspecting for a little while before they come home with me... and dang I guess I'm getting a little bit of a deal but not as great as I thought... still learning :/ lol

Good looking Clowns... i like the wide tail band on "Bonnie"

I wish I could have got a better picture will have to try again later but yes bonnie has some awesome markings but it's Clyde that's actually the show stopper :) he is such an awesome looking clown... so happy I got these, I love em lol
