I have several different zoanthids that for some reason will not open. And some that are opened and look great.I took about 6 seperate rocks with different ones on them and took them to a friends and put them in his tank and within hours they opened.I left most of them there for a few weeks.I checked my perameters and everything appears normal.
CA-450 MG-1350,KH-9,PH-8.2 day/7.9-8.0 at night.Po4-0,Silicates-0,Salinity-1.026,let me know if I missed something.I did several large water changes, like 40% each time. There seems to be no change.I left one of the rocks with some nice blood reds at my buddies so they would spread onto his rocks and they did of course.I left them in his tank for about 2 months and got them back about a week ago and they still havent opened.I am perplexed.Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Rick

How old are your test kits??? They do go bad... I'd check your NO3's too...

Are you running any type of filter media???

Also, you might want to check the readings in your friends tank to see what is working for him...

I went and bought a few new test kits to make sure it wasnt the problem(all were accurate)PH=8.1,KH=12.5,CA=480(a little high but I have been dosing kalk to raise My PH)NO3=0,PO4=0,MG=1320,All test kits are Salifert and I have 2 PH monitors that I just calibrated and both are within .2-.3 of each other.Any ideas, anyone? As far as lighting I have a single 400W 14k in a luminarc mini with a piece of UV glass, thought maybe too much UV so I added the glass, but to no avail.2 65w actinic 03`s(new bulbs)Plenty of flow-2 tunze 6055`s with multicontroller and iwaki md30rlxt on a supersquirt.I`m stumped.

minireefer03, Hows your temp? My zoos got stressed out during a heat wave and the tank reached 90 for 4 or 5 days . For some reason the brownish, purple zoos on this rock did not open for a week . While the gorilla nipples and the ones with the green center seemed unaffected.

what about co2 and o2?
I had a HUGE problem of too much co2 in my tank cuz I was running canister filter and I didn't have any free-falling water to allow co2 to expell from the water and o2 to enter the water. That caused alot of my zoas/palys to close up.
u might want to check that since everything else seems fine.

also, u said u are dripping KALK to raise ph? if u are having problems with keeping your PH up, then that is a sign of too much co2 in the tank cuz that will drop ph......
