45gal sump with 24X12 refugium with miracle mud and caulerpa.
10gal sump with ASM G-3 skimmer
return pump for both sumps is a sedra 1200gph pump
flow in the main tank 3 maxijet 900's on a wavemaker, tunze streammer pump with controller alternating between 1850gph and 1000gph ish.
lighting is 6-80watt T5's
lighting in sump is 1-18watt T5, for past 2 weeks, other light broke getting new one soon.

tank water levels is;
NH3/NH4....0.0
NO2...........0.0
NO3...........0.0
phos..........0.0
silicate.......0.0
temp..........running 80/81-82/83 (little high)
ph..............AM 8.18 PM 8.33
Ca.............410
alk.............3.09
O2.............6ish hard to tell with this salfert test kit.
salinity......34

the story, well try to make it short. about two months ago i had two wrasse die basically over night. had them for 3 months noticed they were breathing kinda rapid the night before they died. but were not stressing at that time. after they died i thought it was my O2/CO2 because tank in a room not much air flow and i have a canopy. tested my O2 i think i read it to be close to two. i put air stones and openned up the canopy and stand doors. plus got some air flow in the room. i put in 6 greenbanded gobies, very small about 1/2", 2 weeks ago, they are doing fine. still in the tank with no issues. about 2 days ago
i put in a percula clown that i have had in another tank for about 4 years. i noticed today he was breathing very rapid and in obvious distress. took me a little while but caught him and put him in the QT i have had set up for a while now. looks like his eye are a little bubbled and he is still breathing rapid. dont know if i got him out in time or not, this just happend. he is still stressed in the QT resting on the bootom. hope he makes it but what could be the issue here. the greenbanded gobies are ok just dont know what it could be, any idea???

o the tank has been going for about 14 months. 6 onths with just live rock followed by 6 omnths with various snails (all still in the tank) then the past couple months had the wrasse (the first fish) greenbanded doing good tell now possible death of 4 year old percula clown from one of my other tanks.

First, I want to say congratulations. I see you have experience, but it is still refreshing for me to read someone actually has a QT.

On the other hand, are you using it?

You don't report the oxygen level BEFORE you put in the greengobies and AFTER you opened up the tank, airstones, ventilated room, etc. Did doing these things change the oxygen content of the water? What was the reading after you did these things?

Were the greengobies quarantined before you put them in?

If you are not routinely and consistently using a QT process for new fishes, then any fish can bring in any disease or condition into your display. Even though the carrying fish(es) might not seem symptomatic, they can still carry a disease which another fish (especially a fish you owned for a long time that probably has lost some immune defenses) will succumb to.

You are in So. CA. Many experienced club members there can help you, too.

You should be sure your fishes are being fed the best and the right foods that ensure a continued strong resistance and immune response to diseases. Check out this recommendation:

Until you have a symptom that is a bit more definitive, I can't say with any certainty the disease/condition the anemonefish might have at this point in time. If the only symptom is fast breathing and lethargic behavior, Brooklynella might be a possibility, being brought in by the greengobies. But I think this not likely.

If you want to try a shotgun approach (which I rarely recommend), I'd treat the fish right away with Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes and perform formalin baths while it is being Maracyn treated.

thanks, and yes i use my QT. i QT everything for about 45 days. the green gobies too. they were in QT for about 2 weeks before the wrasse death. i then let the tank sit for 38 days fishless. then added the greenbanded guys. so they were in QT for about 50+days. i only did two tests before airstones. the sample color was not the same as the chart, i went by the intensity. so might not have been a issue. ended working with the salifert rep in the forum and changed the the drop count from the directions after that been getting about a reading of 6. with my flow and no big change in ph, plus i added the clown after the O2 was reading 6 for a week, i dont think it was O2/CO2. the first day he was fine. the second was ok for most of the day. it was after i got off work i noticed him. work graveyard 12 hour shift.
i really dont think it was a parasite or anything. only took two days to find him sitting on the bottom looking like he was going to die. could have been a mantis or something, but unlikely considering the way i set up the tank. never found any dead snails or anything. now the clown is doing much better, i think he will pull through. after some looking into it, it could be stray voltage from my fans. some cheap computer fans for my canopy back when i was trying to same a buck, many days ago. but they are still on the canopy and i am useing them. had this tank for about 15 years. the greenbanded gobies hang out around the rock, so thinking they would not be as effected because the rock would be blocking the electrical waves. the clown stays more out and about and sleeps in the open water. i will be getting a voltage meter today.
nice food thread. i do a good job with food. this clown has been with me for years. not likely to be nutrition issue. i have a small fridge, bigger than a dorm fridge, but not full size, full just about every thing you could feed a fish. my girl thinks i am crazy.
i am actually going to a reef club meeting in a couple weeks. thought i would check it out. my friend and i are the only two people really into reefs i know.
