Hi, guys so i just got an Tyree LE Green Polyp Toadstool Frag about a week ago and it was fine. Now it dosent want to open up nomore it been 3 days now that it has not open is this normal. please help
TIA danny

not sure without more info, but toadstools in general shed a top layer of skin anywhere from weekly to monthly and won't have polyps extending for the 2-3 days before shedding.. normal process and they look just as good afterwards..

i noticed when i had toadstools with stonies that there seemed to be a lot more shedding going on (weekly instead of monthly) which i was thinking of attributing to chemical warfare, but not sure..

if toadstool beings to look like its melting that is a bad sign.. if bits of it (not clear top skin layer, but small chunks) start coming off if you turkey baste, or just looks like its disintigrating really bad/fast then try to frag and get rid of the rest as it makes a mess of your tank..

Mine looked like crap for a couple weeks, thought it would be a goner, then out of the blue a hermit was carrying it around on the shell it came with as a frag.

well it dosent look like it melting or sheding. and my water parameters has stay the same and nothing has change.im just give it a couple more day to see what it do.

well it dont look like it is shiny on the top and has gotten even smaller and shriveled up.

bluemanta THE secret to all leathers/toadstools...as the wise men say (not me)...go with the flow...

So i should put it in a high flow area?

not necessarily high (since this can be subjective) but good flow area. basically you should feel water flowing through your fingers when your hand is in front of the coral. good flow but not strong enough to blow the frag away...

cheers.

dont mess with it

dont mess with it

I have had a lot of leather and some of them can be really finicky. i had one long tentacle leather stay closed up for weeks and then one day it just opened. Basically what I'm recommending is that you leave it alone and do not remove it from the tank even if it looks like crap. Leathers are super hardy and can take a lot of abuse. I would just leave it and be patient.

Just my 2 cents.
