Helsinki Low Iron Reef - 910 liters

Love the sumpless design. Awesome rock formation.
Looks a little top heavy. Are the rocks held in place by something?

Thank you Kevin and Postshawn!

Kevin: I cut the base of the rocks so they were balanced on their own. I then glued them to the glass with a hard but flexible white glue I got for attaching the reef ceramics. There was no name on the tube and it does not smell like silicone but worked really well for this purpose.

Very nice tank mate! I had the same idea about use of skimmer in my new tank... I want know the progress.
Beatiful+follow.

I really like this tank! One of my favorites so far on RC. I like how its modern, looks clean, and fits into the appt. perfectly. Cant wait to see more updates, this is like a dream tank to me.

Looking great! When you feel like adding more corals, or want some frags, don't hesitate to hit me with a message :crazy1: I'd love to donate some...
I can't help but notice there are no fish. Usually people have some fish to create a bio-load and get the bacterial filter going. Will you be adding fish?
This is actually quite normal here. We don't put any fishes in until the tank is well cycled. IMO it's just cruel to use like a damsel or something to cycle a tank...

And we weren't there yet?
I think you have done your share of waving the flag too ;) I've just been running my mouth... I'm all show no go.

But seriously, whenever you feel like it, just come and clip some frags. And that goes for you too Tomi ;)

Thank you all very much for your kind comments at this early stage!

Thank you Rapide; that is very kind of you and it would be very interesting to see your large tank. PM sent. The hobbyists in Finland are really knowledgeable and helpful and one of many reasons why this hobby is so awesome.

NEW LIVE STOCK LATER THIS WEEK

I will update soon with photos of the fish and corals coming later this week and hopefully also be able to complete the build this week so stay tuned and have a great week :spin1:.

Great tank and even more impressive rockwork. Is that a standard Eheim/MP tank or did they custom build it for you ?

Thank you LesMartin!

It was custom made and I ordered it through a shop in Finland. The shopkeeper said that they normally do not make so "small" customized tanks but not sure if this is correct.

This looks super good!may I ask where did u get the ceramics from and how much di they sent u back?

Thanks!

The ceramics comes from Korallenwelt in Germany and the price was 225€ not including transport.

BUILD NEARING COMPLETION!

Puuh! It is a lot of work to plan, purchase parts, paint and build your own reef tank :)! At the same time it is also fun and very rewarding when you see your plan materialize from paper to completion.

The hood was screwed to the ceiling and the MDF plates were attached. The black pads are sound dampening material to lower the noise level and the tank is almost silent apart from when using the wave box. The furniture is a dark grey color and not black. I have two air intakes/outlets and I will probably add extra fans in these locations later. At the moment though the temperature is fine even without the fans seen in the pics below.

I still have some polishing to do and will add the aluminum borders that I have started to put into place below for the main display and the refuge. The aluminum shark was ordered from Florida at www.metalgamefish.com and I though it was nice since my interest for the hobby started there way back when Crockett and Tubbs kept the streets safe :beachbum:. The lights in the hood adds atmosphere but I think I will change the bulbs to weaker ones and in a colder tone to better match the aquarium lights.
