I would strongly recomend using gfi outlets instead of standard ones. I have been saved twice by them and with that much water you better be safe than shocked or electrocuted.

I would think since he doesnt have GFI plugs his breaker would be a GFI breaker so it trips at the box. If not this is another way to go. But you do need some sort of GFI.

You just need one immediately after the breaker and it will protect everything "downstream" from it.

Yeah that is what I was thinking but he stated he
Added 16 outlets to the room with 20 amps per box (4 boxes)
If that is the case he has 2 boxes in the picture above. If each box is on a seperate braker, there is no GFI plug. Or at least that is how I'm taking it.

Yeah I am going GFI at the box, not in yet but theywill be before I go live. Just overlooked that until we had bought the stuff we needed.

Hopefully the pics will be more interesting in the days to come as it hopefully starts to look more and more like the tank it will be

Are you going with a 1.5" bulkhead, if so, where did you get it?
You can get it at www.savko.com (if you order from them call them I have heard there web site has been hacked in the past and credit card number have been stolen)
or www.premiumaquatics.com has them as well. About the same price at premiumaquatics you usually get it the next day if you order in the morning.

Maybe thats where my number was stolen from. (going to check staements and dtae of purchase form savko, I just got my missing money back, only took a month)

Problem, I would see with gfi breaker at the box, is if you have more than 1 outlet box on a breaker,if one outlet gets wet it trips the breaker killing power to all outlets on that breaker. If you have gfi outlets, then only items on that outlet loose power and with all the items you will have, i would want as few things without power as possible. I am not an electrician , but I have been shocked a time or 50 !:D

Thought I would bring people up to speed on what has been accomplished and what is on the list to do still.

Tank is finally done with the buffing done yesterday to remove the scratches in the acrylic. Job wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, but I gotta say if I wasnt able to sit inside the tank to do it it would have sucked.

Plumbing is also done with a great flow rate. I had a problem with a wave forming in the last chamber of my sump, but that was fixed by creating an air outlet from the 4" return pipe so the water was being forced through but flowing through. At least I got it airtight!

I also received my air conditioning unit for the room, just need to put it in place and run the air vent out.

The tank is ready to go, just the room and stuff around it isnt.

What I have done so far is:

Cleaned and buffed tank.
Ran plumbing
Install 100 amp subpanel and 16 outlets in room
Put tank into place and leveled it out
Ran water line from current location and T'd it off into collection can and auto top off in sump
Cut wall to size
Arranged for finisher to build cabinet around tank
Collected almost all equipment just waiting on Geo reactor to arrive

Still on the list to do is:

Move refrigerator out of room and put in other unfinished area
Build frame for lights and attach
Drill sump and install skimmer
Install air exhaust for room air conditioner and run drain line
Build shelving for various equipment
Decide if I want to plumb the 100 gallon rubbermaid into system as fuge

So it continues. No real pics to post right now but maybe this weekend I will get up some equipment lists and pics

Thanks for reading!

I've been following your progress in the large reef tank forum and it is coming along very nice! As always, keep us informed and good luck to you through the rest of the build. Oh, and your 175g is amazing looking!

You do have mad non tank set up skills :D

Oh, I can set up tanks...just can't redesign basements worth a damn:D I can plumb, figure, etc on the tanks though.

Congrats on the quick setup on your new system...don't forget the benefits of large, regular water changes and things will be good for you.

I have a system set up that I can do a 50 gallon water change in about 15 minutes, so I will be changing water weekly

That is fine and good, but be prepared to do 50% changes if the need arises...Griss did not have that capability and it caused a LOT of problems...don't skimp on the waterchanges...I think a monthly 25-50% would be more beneficial than weekly 10%.

This is based on a LOT of collective experience of reefers. Big tanks are forgiving it "Seems", but they can go bad fast...big water changes are a must when things go awry.

Thought I would post a few pics

Here is the unit I bought for cooling air and taking humidity out of the air. Can cool 400 sq ft (room is only 100) and takes 96 pints from the air daily. Pretty reasonable also at about 450 shipped

Here is the tank while I try and space my lights. Tanks just need a vinegar bath and rinse now

Here are a few pics
