Hey guys I am new to SW tanks and I am looking to grow LPS corals. I have a 150w HQI Halide. Is that enough to grow these LPS? Anything specific I would need? My water temp is 80 and I cant get it any lower than that, is that fine?

if tops out at 80 thats fine just so long its not a big swing in a short amount of time.

just 1 bulb?

Sorry, now I see the picture. I recommend you get a speaker fan and install it to blow at the water, under the HQI and across the water. 80 degrees for long exposure is too high.

If the light unit is on a timer its fine for the photo period (8-12 hours) most tanks are kept between 77-82 degrees....

yeah i have a speaker fan blowing at the rocks. when I get the LPS corals how long do you recommend having the light on for everyday?

Awesome I cant wait to start. I assume each LPS needs plenty of space no? Also should I put them in the top of the rocks? Middle? Or by the sand best?

how old is the tank?spacing depends on the coral, i start all mine off on the sand bed and then migrate to where I want it and where its happy

Im running halides on my 29 gal also. LPS corals growing like weeds! Tank is 2 months old and started with 3 heads on my acan, now it has 12. One month ago I bought 5 heads on a pink panther zoa, last night I had 12 heads. Thats just two examples. Do like the previous poster said, start them off in the sand and slowly move them up the rocks until they seem happy. Liveaquaria has good information on coral placement but its just a guide. Let the coral determine where its happiest.
