Help! I have a large blue hermit crab in my tank. I bought him a new shell to switch into this past weekend, which he has just jumped into. However, I realized too late that this shell is too large, and that he is starting to damage my corals. Is there any way I can force him to switch out of this new shell and back into his old one? Thanks.

I am not sure if this works but you can try this. One time I was trying to remove a hermit crab from a tank, as I was holding onto the shell of the crab, I was working with rockwork with my other hand, eventually that crab got inpatient and frustrated it abandoned the shell I was holding onto and run for its freedom. It is a single incident that I cannot guarantee will happen to your crab.

If the shell is too large for the tank, but the right size for the crab, perhaps the crab has outgrown your tank?

What is this?

What is this?

I'd need some help again :rolleye1:

What kind of hermit crab is this? I must know is it reef-safe or not. (of course this is dead so it's reefsafe :D )
