Hermits and zoos

What's the latest on blue and red-legged hermit crabs and compatibilty with zoos?

They haven't bothered any unless they're dying..

I have both in my tanks, the only time they bother my zoas is when they walk over them.

I have had blues for a year now with no probs and just added a red about a month ago and it has been well behaved thus far!

I have kept zoos with blue-leg, Hawaiian left-handed, and scarlet reef hermits with no problems.

if they eat your zoanthids could mean there is a lack of algae present?? It makes sense but im unsure. Try feeding them nori or algae pellets. I have about 4-5 different types of hermits..none bother any corals.

I second that suggestion. My hermits love spirulina wafers. You should see the stampede when I throw one in. I even had one who would base jump from the top of the tank.

Only problems I've had with blue, red or scarlet hermits is pushing things around, they ignore zoanthids.

Ive never seen either munching on a coral. They are both wonderful at cleaning things up the blue ones stay smaller so they arent very rough. The scarlets will outlive the blues by a long shot but grow quite large and too rough around corals. The best bet is to buy mainly small scarlets and change them out when they grow too large.

It's strange, the only time I've seen one of my hermits bother a Zoa is when the frag was on the sand for a few hours. Once I moved the Zoa back up to the rock, it was fine.

in my tank it only bothers zoa when they move around.
