i turned a 30 gallon high tank into a sump/refugium. just went to home depot and got some glass panes cut and siliconed them into the tank.
make sure you use reef safe silicone like ge I 100% silicone. the ge II has anti fungal/bacteria addaitives so stay away from that one.

hey thanks for the site now i can finalyl have the plastic shop cut me pieces. labor price at tap plastic to glue a " box" is crazy. i asked them to build a tank/sump they said they cant. they cant call it tank/sump can only call a box. i asked will it be water tight. the guy said " it should be water tight" lol tats some funny **** he was sayin and he got me a cost of almost 1000 bucks for materials and labor. 3 hrs of labor to do it

Hey wing. If you want a custom acrylic sump you might want to contact Gen at Kritter Tanks. He will build you a sump any way you want it. His work is top notch. He made me a 42 gallon similar to one of Melev's designs for a good price. The more fancy you get the more $$$ 
When I upgrade to a bigger tank, I'm gonna have him build me the tank/sump again.

Gen is a very busy man so it will take awhile for him to get back to you. The best thing to do is give him the exact dimensions of the sump and internal dimensions of each chamber and what protein skimmer you are using and if you want fuge etc...earthboy17

if you have a glass tank that you're planning on turning into a sump go into a home depot and get 1/4 inch glass panel cut a little bit thinner then the width of your tank. id say you need 1/8 inch gap on each side that you fill with silicone. you'll need 4 panels. 3 for the bubble baffle and 1 to separate the refugium area from the return area.

Yeah. Lots easier to start with an existing (glass) tank that you want to use with a sump, then silicone in (glass) baffles.

^ thats a good point. on the silicone label it says that it doesn't bond well with acrylic so glass should be used. however, in my sump/refugium the last wall that seperates the middle chamber from the return/last chamber in acrylic. i just did a real thick bead of silicone on bothe sides to sandwich the acrylic in place. i used acrylic on the last wall so i could cut teeth into the top so that the water isn't pouring in to the last chamber and causing bubbles.
I'll have to remeber that for the next refugium I build

Did you buy the acrylic and glue? If so, just return it. Gen has his own supplies. hehe
