Calling all big tank owners (600 gallons or more) Can someone post some pics of their skimmer in action.

I am thinking about upgrading my current BK and want to try something proven

I am looking for an external skimmer that can handle up to 1,000 gallons well stock sps tank.

Here is my old 400ext. I don't have anything larger than 500g. I find the BK400ext perfect for my 240g cube

If you want something rated for 1000g+. Here is the greatest and latest H&S A-400 44" tall with 3 aquabee 5000 pumps

This sent me on a whole tangent of chasing the H&S A400...only to discover it has a price tag of $4700. Sorry...but it is three pumps and an acrylic tube...

I'm sure it is well made...but I can't wrap my head around that price.

I really don't like the pic of the H&S to be honest Steve, and I know that treads on some toes, but it doesn't look like it's perorming very well.

I know they are a good builder and their stuff is good quality, but nearly half that skimmer is just water. It seems to me from the pic that those pumps are just too small. I would be more interested in that body with a Hammerhead NW or my airstone manifold.

Wow, very impressive Jon. How often do you have to replace the air stone?

I agree that the A-400 has lots of water on the body because the pumps mounted kind of high but stay tune . There will be a new version with 60" tall, 5 Aquabee 5000 @ 1100-1200 lph each pump... According to Brian and Eric the protein skimmer is a beast.... I am not sure how well it work but i can tell you that protein skimmer will work better than my Bk400ext

Probably not necessary in my lifetime, but I figure every five years wouldn't hurt. Those are 9" Aquatic-Eco Fine Pore Ozone Safe stones...really stout to say the least. About every 6 months I let them take a weak muriatic nap.

jnarowe, Holy smoke - those aren't foam. At least you have some froth to go with the 1 - 2 gallon of coffee this thing make ;D

I had zero experience building anything out of acrylic let alone a skimmer when I built mine. The air pump costs around $325 - $350, acrylic in the range of $300 - $400, stones are about $20 each, so you could conservitively build this bad boy for under $1K and get great skimming.

Tools? All I used was an oven, router, table saw, sander, drill, and tap.
