Hey Chad Farmer, I think I'm back

I think I'm back after finding out my Salefert KH test was wrong. Using Tetra test, I brought my KH up to 10 dkh. I also removed my maximods and put my tunze 6101's back in. Never thought I would use that much flow, your right though. I don't think my tanks looked this good in a long time. For thoughs of you that don't know my situation I used to have a tank full of sps corals. Then my tank crashed for no reason. All tank measurements are perfact. Since then I have bought several frags and have lost them to. After posting on RC sps keeper about my problem, someone came out and said Salifert put out a bad kh test kit. The next day I went out and bought the Tetra test kit. Salifert says I'm at 9.6 dkh and Tetra says I'm at 6 dkh. I added Seachems reef builder to the tank until the Tetra kit said I am at 10 dkh. Like I said my tank has not looked this good in a long time. Here are some pictures I took tonight. The first is the green milli I bought two weeks ago. The second one is the red planet I picked up on friday. Chad if by next weekend they are still looking good I'd like to buy anything you've got left over from the frag swap.

PS, Chad I hope your little girls doing good. She is probable bored out of her mind.

I also had a bad Saliferts Kh test. The calibration fluid was included, but was also wrong. Back to the Tetra kit for me.

Ya when I questioned my Salifert kit the first thing I checked was the calibration fluid which says it's right. So I kept using it and kept loosing any sps a bought. Thanks to a guy on the sps forum and Chad. I switched to Tetra and am back in the sps hobbie.

Well this thread made me spent a few bucks on another kh kit just to be safe. I bought an Elos kit and it reads 5.0 dkh while my salifert reads 6.8! The calibration fluid for the salifert wasdead on what it was supposed to be. I'm running zeovit so I'm shooting for 6.5. - 7.5. I'm not quite sure which kit to trust but things are not looking up for the Salifert kit

I think I'm going to take a sample with me to work and check it with a professional grade test just to verify.

Tested Today:

Elos (SET 2011): 5.5 DKH
LaMotte (LOT 359903): 5.8 DKH
Salifert (06-2013): 8.7 DKH

I'm still gradually raising my ALK but I changed GFO last week and that always causes a slight drop. I keep forgetting but I think I'm going to take a sample into work next week and have our Senior Hydrologist see what he come up with.

Man you all are scaring me. I always use salfert for alk. Going to have to take some of mine in and have it tested.

Well if your Alk is like 6 or something isn't your Calc gonna be higher than normal ?? I'm always around 9 with 400 or so Calc. If I see my Alk dropping to 6 shouldn't I see my Calc going up to 480 or something ?? I was under the impression they were like a seesaw, if one went up the other went down and visa versa.....
