hey guys i need some fast help please

thanks guys i really do appreciate this, this is my first sump/overflow and ive been in the hobby for a good while now and this is about the toughest thing ive faced....i rather try to keep a morish idel alive for more then a year then to ever get a none reef ready tank and go through this ever again lol

Sites?

Sites?

dont fret so much about it. you just need to get it dialed in and you will be good. the microbubbles you are getting are coming fromteh skimmer and the flow from teh tank. I recommend you open teh flow from your overflow box wide open. then close the valve on the pump a bit at a time till you get the flow you want. the bubbles will slow when you throttle it back. your HOB overflow will only remove what your pump puts back in provided you have no air in the U-tube.

as for the noise, yes, they can make that noise. you should try it with twin 1 1/2" drains at 2000gph! sounded like the toilet on a cruise ship. I added a Hofer Gurgle buster. it is a home made devise that completely silenced the returns on my tank. Go look it up. it is small and can fit right in your overflow.

you are just a few tweaks away from success. we have all been there. unfortunately for many of us, sites like this werent around back then right bill?

Heck, There wasn't even Computers around when I started Reefing, We had to build every thing DIY back then, No store bought stuff to be had LOL

Oh yea, and FYI, they dont like URL's in your signature. they made me remove mine.

lol @ Bill......well guys if ya lived closer to me i'd BBQ steaks for ya cause i came home and wala no water on the floor and no dry pump,it stayed stable lol YAY now i have the job of SLOWLY throdling back the pump a bit to stop the build up of micro bubles as best i can and also im having a little problem with the pipe leading across my sump feeding slower water to my fuge,it gurgles too much and its not a steady stream of water, even if i open the valve all the way on that too it still gurgles.....any ideas or pointers......oh and since my sump and display are now level ill attempt to fill my display all the way to the top to where it belongs,it needs like a gallon or a bit more to go,wont that mess with the over flow and cause it to drain a bit faster and ill have to maybe reajust my return again to get it level once again?

leave that return wide open. what lowered? your tank level or the sump level? if you are managing the tank water level with a valve, you would be better to just raise the box on the inside of the tank slightly. water will seek its level. that internal side of your overflow should have a set screw. just raise that inside box a bit and it will determine the level of your tank.

Well guys i though all was well til i marked where the water like in my sump was and noticed that in a few hourse it drops some....seems as though i still need to play with closing off my return pump some

You will lose some water to evaporation on a daily basis, You will need to top off this loss with Fresh RODI water. An ATO (Auto Top Off) would be best when you can afford one, But you can do it by hand every day to keep your salinity stable.

that i understand Bill but evap in just a few hours that makes it drop about quarter of an inch ? woke up and had to throdle back my pump again cause its sucking too much water and i noticed that my water is cloudy, not much but a little cloudy from its cristal clear look it always had,not sure what thats about

Absolutly, Mine drops about 2" a day on a 59gal tank, I add Kalk on a daily basis to keep it stable and help keep my PH up due to running a Ca reactor.
So 1/4" is very likely evaporation, But it's normal.

well guys i think its ok now,i raised the overflow box so that the display water meets the top of the tank and it seems like it was evap that is making the sump water lower like it is,not too sure, ill keep an eye on it to see, bill i was wondering how i could add an auto top off for ir when i dont have any room left under my tank, could i set some sort of a tank or something in our bathroom and run a line to my sump?

thought so,id have to see if i can do that being that i have like no room at all,i still dont have an rodi set up,i have one but i need all new filters and it leaks in a few places :(

hey guys,i woke up today and wala, its set now,my sump and display are now in sink with each other ya guys dont know how nerve racking this was or well i suppose ya do lol anyways now that it seems that this is set and done with my next challenge is to set up my ice cap 660 with 4 bulbs and buld something to shut the noise from my overflow up lol
