Hey Uztaryn

It was a big double beckett from GEO. The thing is a monster.

I have been racing a lot this season and haven't had a lot of time to be on here or in the fish room.

The skimmer is setup and online, but still not getting enough flow to it yet. I will be changing that soon.

Pics to follow as soon as I have it running completely.

BTW my old 2 skimmers are still for sale. Make offers.

You need to run a pressure pump on it and use a separate pump for each beckett for most efficency. I'm using a Pan world PS 200 and I think both Joe and Mark are using the same pump.

It does better than the average circulation pump but is not a full blown pressure pump. IMO I'm actually going to switch mine out off the tank because of that.

No, A Hammer head is not a pressure rated pump. You should look at the Tiger Shark Sequence pump to run both becketts off one pump.

So do I need to run a pump to the beckets? I thought they were just air inlets. I have a T in between them that I run the pressure pump to. and then they pull in air.

At least that was my understanding.

I currently have it hooked up to the Hammer Head and it is working, but I plan on switching to a pan world 250. Phishy's didn't have it in stock so I may just order it online.

I also saw some other preasure rated pumps that were cheaper and rated the same GPH and relative head preasure. I may end up with one of those, we will see.

Mark you are correct and they don't need an air pump if thats what you mean. The becketts are just an air source and the faster you push water through them the more air they suck in. i'm using a PS200 on my single beckett unit and it pulls in about 140 (forgot the units). A hammerhead is a volume pump and not a pressure pump, I use one on a closed loop,

Yeah, it is working with the hammerhead, but I am going to buy a preassure pump for it. Either the Pan World 250 or maybe the Little Giant 5.5. It appears that the little giant may be slightly better. Sucks that I will have to add another power draining pump though.

But I am loosing 1 dart and 2 sedra 9000's by taking the other two skimmers out.

I am using a Pan World 250 as a return for my two display tanks and my frag tank. It is a beast. Pumps 1500gph against 24 feet of head no problem.

I have a backup pump that you could try if you want to see if the 250 will do the job. It is a backup because the person I bought it from on RC said it was like new and it is not. It sounds like a 747, but still pumps the same. You would not want to use it for more than a few hours or it will drive you out of your house it is so loud.

I had to buy a new one because the used one was so loud. I keep the backup for parts mainly.

If you have an air line on your becketts I have an air meter that goes up to 50scfh.

For now, I would hook the Hammerhead to just one becket. I would be willing to bet you will get more performance out of one head on that pump and trying to run it with two.

As far as Pan World vs Little Giant, The pan world uses less energy and are proven to run for years service free.

Pan world pump came in today... fast shipping! I should be able to get it hooked up tomorrow or Thursday depending on trips to lowes and such. The way my skimmer works is that both of the becketts (at least that is what I think they are called) are connected into a T that is fed from whatever feed pump I use. Each becket has an air inlet that I could monitor if I had the means.

My plan is to mount the PW 250 with a prime line above the water level just a bit so I will only have about 5ft of head before it goes into the skimmer.

With the split Hammerhead (running return to my smaller tank 120) it seems to be ok, but just not what I think it is capable of.

On a side note, I bought one of the new Tunze 6205 pumps as well and have it running in my main display (500g) along with 2 6100's to build a wave. Still not as big as I thought it would be but I am still working on tuning the wave.

Be careful mounting above the water line. What happens if the power goes out? Will it run dry when power is restored?
