Hello,

I've started to upgrade my 45 gallon hexagon. My problem is, I'm replacing a Rio pump with a Iwaki MD30. That isn't so much the problem. The problem is, I don't know how. I was wondering if this pump is submersible. I've been getting conflicting advice on the web. I'm sure though *someone* here has the same pump as I and could probably help me with some good advice.

Secondly, which end is which?

Those pumps aren't listed as submersible anywhere I could see. I would assume it's external only. The Mag and Eheim pump lines have submersible models.

I have an Iwaki that I bought used, although I don't have it running yet. The exterior of the body is metal, and although I'm new to the hobby, my understanding is that you want to keep all metal out of your water at any cost.

Thanks everyone!

Your help was extremely timely and very (for lack of a better word), helpful!

A very grateful Lunarvie
