Hibernation and molt....

My mantis hadn't come out of his barnacle shell cave for well over a week so I was starting to worry.

Finally the wife convinced me to investigate. I llifted the shell cluster up and using a stick carefully prised the snail shells he'd plugged up the entrance with and turned it upside down.....out dropped a piece of mantis shell and I could see more of it inside. I said to the wife that it looked like we'd lost our mantis, but then I could see something wiggling. I shook the barnacle under water and out slid a beautiful green peacock mantis and he promptly found his way to another barnacle shell, lleaving behind his old black coloured exo-skeleton.

I had no idea that they changed colour.....from black to a mid-green colour in this case. He was already a great looking creature but now is even better.

These are just the best....
