high ammonia levels

My ammonia is somewhere between .25_.50. Its ussually at 0 but recently added some new stuff and am still adjusting. I have a 70 gal display with a 30 gal sump. What size water change would be recomended. I have been doing about 5 gal a week.

This is an established tank?

I generally wouldn't deal with ammonia by water change except in a QT tank because the changes needed to be helpful (say, down to 0.1 ppm or less) are so large, and the ammonia may come back the next day.

If this is an unusual occurrence, I'd treat with something like Prime or Amquel.

Yeah ive had the tank for about 10 or 11 months. i had a purple firefish die and added a decent amount of stuff all in a relatively short period of time

I agree with using some Prime or Amquel
