High-light SPS browing out close to LED lighting...move them down?

My SPS that have nice color are lower in the tank, and I received some frags of SPS that are supposed "light hogs" so I put them up close to the surface. They have turned brown and aren't colored up at all, so I've moved them down in the tank about 3-4."

Anyone else have this happen to them? What were the results? If the corals colored back up, how long did it take?

To be specific, the corals are - Red Convex Acropora, Rouge Millepora, Superman Montipora Digitata, and the Garf Bonsai.

Any experiences or anecdotes would be appreciated, thanks.

Peace,

Chip

it really depends what lighting they came from. if they aren't used to leds I always start them on the sandbed for a minimum of a week. If they came from a led tank then its not always necessary. I think it takes time for the populations of zoanthelle to shift to ones that tolerate the specific spectrum of the lights well. If it browned out then at this point I would just leave it. from my experience they color up in a couple months. if they bleach move them down.

I would say its not the light, if they are high up they will bleach not brown. Possibly high nutrients in your system or they are just shocked. I have had several brown and then come back full colour months later. I would just leave them for a few months and hopefully they will come back

Before we start thinking its the light what are your water levels at. Sounds like you have high levels of P04 and what is your temp at please tell us more and a picture would be helpful.
