High Nutrient Macro Algae/Sea Grass Reef

I'm glad you found something you like Dawn. Were there other lights you were considering or were these the clear choice? The programmability sounds very cool. You got the Reef Breeders, right? I just put the Reef Nano by Reef Breeders on my nano tank.

The other fixture that appealed to me for my tank was the Reef Brite LumiLite Pro. It was the 2nd most inexpensive option on BRS LED light showdown (coming in around $400) and it scored higher overall than the ReefBreeder that I chose. I really liked that the strips can be swivelled to adjust the angle into the tank thus cutting down some of the disco ball-ish shimmer. It is a rectangular configuration which is good for my rectangular tank. In the end however I elected to go with the ReefBreeder to save the $70 or so plus the ReefBreeder included the hanging kit and legs saving even more.

For a nano tank that would be used to grow sps, I would choose the Radion XR 15. It was the best value in regards of price/par. I do not need that much muscle because I know that I will never have an sps dominant tank however which is why I did not choose it.

I hope you like your ReefBreeder as much as I like mine.

I cleaned the glass so the tank is finally presentable to video since the ReefBreeder was hung. I feed the fish some green flakes everyday for especially Tommy and Angelica, but since most of the fish are omnivores, it's probably good for everyone.

I am sorry to say that Guardian has not been coming out to eat, which makes me really sad. Now I wished that I had left him in the fuge but I never expected him to be one who would cower with fear. There is no way to rescue him without tearing the tank apart and that would put the other fish at risk. Everyone else is doing great, even poor Jammies who eye looks awful, ( but he eats well).

filedata/fetch?id=32365735&d=1644684248 I love the clean low profile look of this fixture hung. Of course my net cover where it goes over the HOB overbox now looks messy, LOL. It's to stop fish from jumping but maybe I can cut the portion over the overflow box.
This is at 15%, which is crazy how much this ReefBreeder must be capable of. You can see how high it is hung too. Amazing!

Dawn,
Its been a while since I visited. How many tanks do you have set up now?

Ten months ago I set up two ornamental seaweed tanks and reduced this lighting this week. With reduced lighting it’s easier to control fast growth rate of the macros.

Jessie,
Thank you for making it easier to post pictures to threads.

I have always set up low tech / low maintenance tanks. Of recent, cryptic zones are an integral part of biochemistry using a tripod of algae, bacteria and cryptic sponges to recycle nutrients into desirable biomass.

This is my oldest set up at 25 years mature.

Beautiful tank Patrick! I am doing pretty much the same as you in having macro algae, beneficial bacteria and cryptic sponges do my nutrient uptake.

I have 1 system made up of 3 tanks. The 56 gallon display is in the living room, and it gravity feeds down to a 30 gallon refugium in the basement that gravity feeds into a 20 gallon long (cryptic sponge and return pump ) sump right next to the fuge. I love how easy and low tech this tank system is to maintain.

I have great news everyone, Guardian came out today and has sat out in the open all afternoon. I was so sad thinking of him cowering in a hidey hole but wasting away slowly because he was too afraid to come out. I had pretty much just given up on seeing him again and then there he was, and he has been there all day!

So cute. What kind of goby is that?

Its just a YWG but he came out when the lights were at peak brightness and he is a bit pale from hiding so much. Now that I know where his lair is I plan to squirt a few pellets in it everyday just to make sure that he is eating well, at least until he gets really comfortable in the display tank.

I see Jammies and PJ, the cardinalfish, Thing #1, and #2, the damsels, Tommy the tomini tang, Ozzie the ocellaris clownfish, Charlie Brown the Midas blenny, Angelica, the Coral Beauty angelfish, Barney the barnacle blenny and Guardian the YWG. I do not see Monarch the Royal Gramma and Thing #3, one of the damsels. I should have taken this pic on a higher resolution to blow it up some.

It's neat to see so many fish at any given time and mostly they are peaceful. The damsels and Angelica skirmish often but it looks pretty harmless.

You can see one of the 3 feather duster s out (although all 3 do come out regularly) and the new green BTA. I am enjoying both feather dusters and nems so much that I may add more if these all flourish.
