High Turnover?

Hi,

I have a tank with dimensions that suggest it's a 40gal tank. When I filled it with water the other day, I was able to put in around 90 liters. I'd say there's approximately 90 lt, give or take what was soaked in the sand, so probably round it up to 25 gals of actually water in the tank at any given time.

I currently have a a Korelia Nano 240 and a Whisper 60 filter that is currently moving the water. The filter is neither here nor there, and will be replaced with an overflow to accommodate a sump further down the line.

I know I'm under in flow right now, and I was looking at purchasing a maxijet for the time being.

My question is, is there such thing as too much turn over? The price of these maxijets are so minuscule, I'm tempted to get a 1200 to start, but have heard about too much turnover being a bad thing.

What would you guys recommend for a 40gal tank with 25gals of water in it to act as a main powerhead while the nano supplements the flow pattern?

Two mp 60's lol haha. JK i really like the jebao pumps get a small one or two and that way you can turn them down or up depending on what you keep in the tank. and there CHEEP.

The only problem if you had to much turnover might be that if you have corals that dont like high flow then it might be an issue. But like stated above being able to turn them down would be beneficial.

Too much flow and too high of turnover are two different things IMO. You can never have too much turnover. The more water movement around the coral tissue the better. Flow is a different story. Some species like to be blasted (Montipora and Acros IME) and some like it very slow (Trachs and Lobos IME). I would look for a pump with adjustable rates and something with less laminar flow and more turbulent flow. Jebao makes fairly decent power heads as mentioned. vortecs are also great, but will raise the cost.

I second the Jebao option get a couple rw-4s and you can set the flow to exactly what you need. They have a small footprint as well so they wont take up as much space as a maxi jet.

Also the maxijets aren't the same quality as they used to be. If you want the old maxijet quality you have to get one from cobalt aquatics. They only sell the 1200.

Also you want to shoot for about 30-40x turnover. In your tank that would be somewhere around 1500gph. Two of the rw-4's would allow some wiggle room because as the tank grows in you may have to increase flow.
