Hire to make Sump work

Hi,

My initial idea was to have a tank without a sump, mainly because i know i wouldn't be able to pull it off, because i have no idea how to do it, no matter how good online videos are.

So i was thinking, maybe i could hire someone from somewhere to make things work? Perhaps i could ask to the same people who will build the tank if they can also make all the needed connections and explain how things really works? Or someone from a marine tank store?

Do you guys think that's viable?

How about finding local help from an LFS or a local club? There is a list of clubs at the end of the list of forums here at RC.

Maybe a LFS is the best option, but i have to chose very wisely and find which one is really trustworthy and specialized in saltwater. I know 1 or 2 nearby and they are not very good professionals. I have to see in a bigger town.

I'm from Portugal and believe it or not, there's not that many options, at least not in my town, but certainly in Lisbon there is.

A sump is seriously simple. What tanks specs do you have and what are you trying to keep in the tank?

I dont have nothing yet but it'd be a 80 gallon tank. I only asked for the price of the tank but then they told me the total price with drilling and column for the Sump. They did that because i told them its a saltwater tank

Buy a 'reefready' tank: pre-drilled, with all connectors. Stick the standpipe (a pipe) in the obvious hole in the downflow box (only one it fits) and use a hose clamp (ask your hardware) to fasten hoses to the connectors (simple turn of a screwdriver)----drop the other end of the hose to the connector on your sump, then do same to your return pump, which sits in the sump, bring its hose up top, and your loop is complete. No drilling, just screwing on hose clamps. Your hardware store will likely show you exactly how it's done.
Prepare to become a plumbing expert as your time in this hobby increases. I went from not knowing how to connect a pipe in my tank to re-plumbing our bathtub and sink.

Rather than hire experts, join your local reef club: they'll have tons of advice and help for you.

A sump can be as simple as anoher fish tank with no chambers to very complex. Like the others suggested tey joining a local group for help, even if it does it help withthe immediate need its still a good idea. On the other end of the spectrum is to just hire out a custom builder. It comes down to your means and comfort level, theres no 'wrong' means here.
