Any ideas what this is. I've got a smattering on my sand-bed, my rockwork...and even got it growing on the bottom of my torch's exposed skeleton. Please answer in the form of a question. ;)

Pardon the photography skills...or lack there of.

Peggy, did Dr Ron say what kind of sponge? If you have the same thing, let me know what I'm dealing with here.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I honestly don't remember the name of the sponge. Mine eventually disappeared. You really don't need to worry about them but if you don't like them, I would suggest scraping them off.

hmmmm....well I'm about to move and I'll be setting up my sump when I do. Maybe I'll just scrape them and drop them in the sump for a little extra biological filtration. They must be eating something...so if they're doing no harm I'm probably getting the better end of the deal.

Interesting, the exact same thing popped up in my algae tank (12 gallon nano for sea grass). I was thinking sponge as well, but couldn't guess honestly.

i just wish i knew what it fed on....so i could know what i have a surplus of in my tank. these little sponges love me at the moment. i wonder what else i could have that might filter out the same things and look a little more attractive. ideas?

have the smae thing in my seahorse tank. I thought it was some sort of anemone. I got the rock out and burned away. Weeks later its back practically in the same place.

chrisbenavides - ...so I should get used to looking at these in my tank...is that what you're telling me? ;-) BTW, I'll be a grad student as of the middle of August....any advice on how to keep money in the reefing fund?
