I rescued this guy from a LFS about two weeks ago. He had the HLLE before I purchased him, but unfortunately at the time I did not know the HLLE was present. I was not aware of the disease and what it looked like when it was present on fishes.
He was living in a little cubicle and I had to rescue him.

Is this case looking really bad?

Could it be reversed and his colors restored to an extent?

Is he suffering? My water parameters are excellent and I am feeding him a variety of foods. I am starting to soak his veggie clips in VitaChem. Because he is the only one in the tank that is interested in the clips, which is good, and he is eating like a pig, I hope it will be easy to treat?!

Will I be able to cure him? I believe he is an excellent environment (compared to what he was in in the LFS) and it has not gotten any worse. I am keeping an eye on it carefully.

He is eating Formula Two Herbivore (green) flakes, TetraMin tropical flakes, Ocean Nutrition (green marine algae) seaweed clips, Hikari brine shrimp, Hikari ocean plankton.
He is a pig all the time. And I feed him several times a day.

Does anyone have some good suggestions?
Vitamin soak every other day?

Prove that it will work with all fish? Obviously, this might not work for ALL fish. However, the thread i linked had success, the poster before you had success with her yellow, ive had success with my hippo and also a coworkers hippo. I've read numerous other threads on here and saltwaterfish.com about success with this same method. With proper conditions and a proper diet with vitamin supplements, there is a good chance for a hlle reversal. To tell someone there is no real cure is wrong in my opinion
 
Well there is no real cure to it exactly. None has been proven. Its a well proven fact that copper will kill ich (well atleast the spots you see on the fish). The method you described is not gauranteed or else everyone would be using that method to cure their fish. In addition, there are some bad cases of hlle where its so bad that the skin is scarred pernamently.
 
As i already said, obviously nothing is guaranteed to always work. I've heard, read and experienced MANY success stories using this method as apparently have these other posters.
p.s.- I think everyone would use this method to try and cure unless people just tell them "there is no real cure" when they ask what they can do :thumbsup:
 
I think you both might want to dial it back a bit.

There is technically no cure because no one knows for sure what causes MHLLE. That said, there are things that seem to help like improving and varying the diet, increased water changes with purified water and a high quality salt mix, adding supplements like Vita-Chem and Selcon, etc.
 
Dial it back a bit? interesting, considering my last 2 posts said this method may not work i'm not sure why that comment was necessary. I guess i should have left reefobsessor with "nope, sorry" instead of trying to share a method many people have used successfully.

oops. well now rereading, i realize YOU wrote that article. I certainly would defer to you but your own article says in the last sentence that this method has "almost always" worked for you when youve had mhlle. so im not sure what i said different than you?

Yes I agree. Yes there is no real understanding to why its caused but that doesn't mean the condition can be improved.

Dialing it back a bit...hmmm...Seems like we were the only ones discussing and helping at the time.
 
Thank you guys for the input. Hopefully I can bring this guy back to his normal self. That would be pretty cool..b/c he is one of the coolest tangs I have ever had.
