HLLE question

i recently purchased a Dejardini Sailfin from a LFS. He was traded in by someone who was taking down their tank. He is showing some signs of HLLE now, adn I'm curious if somethign may have triggered it, or it was there to begin with and is just now showing up. My Mimic tang is acting weird, and is showing signs of ich. There is no catching them, to get them out of the tank and QT, so I'm treating with heavy garlic and Selcon feedings, every other day. Anything else I can do to help them out? Also, can HLLE spread from fish to fish? Thanks.

Is he in the reef tank? The only way I have ever "cured" HLLE is by putting a fish in my reef from a fish only.....and it was a severe case. He had minimal signs of it off and on after that but it mostly stayed gone. Changing out my carbon seemed to trigger small outbreaks that would go away. Also the period when I ran a UV on that tank it seemed to get slightly worse and then went away again when I removed it. All just anecdotal but worth thinking about. The main things I have read that are suspected of causing it are carbon, insufficiencies in diet and minimal stray voltage from what I can remember. No one knows for sure.

garlic. never hurts. soak nori(or fishes favorit food) in garlic and cross fingers. garlic is amazing and unknown benefits...

Yes he is in my reef. The only reading that is out of line is my Alk, which I am slowly raising. Both fish eat well, and also feed on the algae that is growing in the tank, due to the Alk problem. I'll keep up my water changes, and hope for the best. Thanks guys.
