So whats the deal with HLLE? I've heard speculation on causes from diet to stray voltage to carbon use. Whats the actual cause and cure?

I'm treating my 180 FOWLR with hypo, I spent about a week lowering the salinity to 1.009, and then had to leave town for 2 weeks. Just got back and the ich is looking much better (lost all my lyretail anthias, which werent sick to begin with - but thats another thread). But I'm noticing some significant beginnings of HLLE on my majestic angel. What do I need to do?

i believe the carbon use has stemmed from actual carbon dust and not actually running carbon in your system, as long as you rinse it (honestly though, who doesnt?) you should be ok with it. i run carbon in my tank and actually had a yellow tang who had HLLE when i got him get over it rather quickly with a good diet.

most causes and cures are purely speculation, but IMO it is most likely caused by stress and poor nutrition, but that is just my theory.

for your angel i suggest soaking food in garlic and selcon and try to give him the most unstressful conditions you can in your tank.

Anything posted WILL be an opinion since no one really knows why it happens to fish in aquariums. It does not seem to occur in the wild.
