I think my Achilles tang has lateral line erosion. I feed him green algeaeery day with kent garlic xtreme. I am also going to order some of that live seaweed stuff any suggestions he's about 2-3 inches and is in 90 gallon tank. I know too small.

Achilles Tangs are a particularly finicky tang that really don't fare well in most aquariums. I know we discussed grounding probes in another thread, did you add that yet? Also, a large amount of flow is important to keep them healthy. In terms of actual treatment, I don't know much. Hopefully some of the more knowledgable people on this forum will give their thoughts.

Well in to a power strip and then into one I think I had the grounding probe and don't pick up any stray voltage.

Make sure it is.

You're always going to measure a voltage in any aquarium. The friction of water movement creates a voltage. Voltage itself isn't the killer, current is. By grounding your tank, you're discharging that voltage to ground, creating current.

Why remove the grounding probe. I have a shark and that's why I have it and what's Gac and I don't have any Selcon.

Grounding probes take that voltage in your tank and turn it into electrical current, which flows through all the inhabitants of your tank. A standing voltage is not detrimental, flowing current is.

For instance, when you touch a doorknob and feel static electricity, it's because a voltage has been built up in your body. You don't feel that voltage until you touch that doorknob (in essence, grounding yourself). The voltage in your body discharges to the doorknob (which has no voltage) because the voltage is trying to balance itself between your body and the doorknob. This balancing results in current, which Is the shock you feel.

GAC is granular activated carbon, which has been proven to cause HLLE.

Selcon is a vitamin. HLLE has been linked to nutritional deficiency.

So are you promoting the grounding probe or demoting it?

For fish health, demoting it.

For personal safety, can be useful if used in conjunction with a GFCI, but unless you have major problems, such as a heater failing, powerstrip entering tank, etc (situations that you would definitely notice), I don't find them necessary. I've never used one.

Really i thought you were supposed to have a grounding probe because it grounded your tank uhh. I dont run carbon and i ordeder som selcon. Thanks for the advice.

I think I could name at least a dozen things that have been said to cause HLLE. I've never seen any real study that shows much of anything; there was some good, but still anecdotal, info linking carbon to HLLE. I don't think anyone knows for sure. My own experience says it isn't caused by anything electrical or well-rinsed carbon.
