Hlle

i have a yellow tang that looks like it is getting beat up by another fish. but now i have discovered that it has HLLE. i asked my LFS and they said ground the tank which i bought a probe. but they also said that the disease is uncurable and the fish will eventually die and look like crap until it dies. anyone want to object to their statements or is this true?(please object)

I dont think it is always lethal. I had a CB which I thought had hlle or mhhle. I moved to QT tank making sure all parameters were as perfect as I could get them and making sure I fed the best foods I could.
Great link on nutrition

I also treated with maracyn-two. The fish has been recovering just fine since. The spots/indentations in the head of the fish are slowly disappearing. Now I guess Im not 100% sure it was hlle but all the symptoms matched and from responses I got here it was.

Heres some links for further reading on hlle if you are interested...

Marine Head and Lateral Line Erosion is rarely lethal, but it can make the fish ugly. On the up side, it does seem to be reversible given excellent water quality and diet.

can HLLE be a byproduct from being attacked by another fish? such as a kole tang nipping at my yellow tang...could the stress from that cause the HLLE?
