HOB or Sump

I am moving my 10 gallon into a 40 gallon soon and am trying to do it as lease expensive as possible. But also without not doing it right. I can get a coralife Superskimmer for around 80 bucks now and that would be it, or I can get a 50$ overflow and the a pump and plumbing and all and be a bit more expensive. Just wondering what would be the prefered method.
Thanks....

If cost is the main concern, there is nothing wrong with using HOB equipment for your 40 gallon tank. Just a couple things to keep in mind. 1)Paint the back of the tank so that you don't see the equipment as much as possible. 2)Make sure you have enough room behind the tank so that you can service the equipment conveniently. 3) Make sure that you have a way to do surface skimming.

For the first two years I was in this hobby, I maintained a 55 gallon tank with a HOB AquaC skimmer and an Aquaclear power filter. Tank did great. The nice thing about doing it this way is that I never had to worry about leaks or floods. I could take a week vacation without losing any sleep over the thought of coming back to a flooded disaster.

Thank you for the reply....With that being said, I was looking at the Coralife SuperSkimmer. It's around 80 bucks. Would this be a decent skimmer or shall I look into something else?
Thanks again

With 80 bucks I would look around for a better used skimmer. I have seen some really good skimmer deals out there.

I used a CPR bac pac 2 on my 35 gallon reef tank for a few years with no problems at all. You can find them used very resonable and they are very simple. I only had some leathers, mushrooms, and some zoas. Nothing to demanding. Good luck with your new tank
