holey grail of fish. My Green Mandarin Eats Frozen Foods!

It did not take long to get him to start eating frozen food. Started with some Instant Ocean's Marine Blend. (The gel food) some Mysis shrimp, then brine shrimp. Now he eats anything in the tank now. I AM SOOO HAPPY my little guy is all grwon up. HA I love it.

He has been in a 29 Bio for 2 months.

Fwiw They are being captive raised so yes they eat prepared foods. Just make sure to feed often. These fish are constantly looking for food all day long. If not fed properly they will slowly starve to death over 6-12 months.

Many mandarin's will eat prep'd food, but I would not depend on that alone for long term success.
It may be a challenge to keep it fat and healthy in that size tank.
Eating prep'd food will help a bit, but it needs constant supply of pods.

He has a live food source. I was getting ready months before I even though about getting one. Only when I knew I had a stable enough food source did I get him. He has been eating his little heart out. As for the frozen foods. He just started eating it. and NO I do not want to just change him over to frozen foods. I want to keep his life as natural as possible. That and I also have a lot of time and $$ invested into the copepods.
All I was saying is he is Eating other foods now. That tank gets frozen and other prepared foods 3 times a day. It has taken me over a year to finally feel ready and prepared to get one. I am not a “that looks nice and buy it person.” Thanks though

Not being neg, just so many seem to be on the prep'd food overcoming the need for pods thing lately, just clarifying.
I do agree every little bit helps, just not solely relying on prep'd foods.

one thing that I have done is to make sure every fish is being as natural as possible. Feeding tank mates and such. Food/diet is always the most important. I see too many people just get a fish then ask questions. Kills me. This was the first fish I ever wanted. Took me a long time to be ready to get it.

Way to go! :thumbsup: Mine does too! I found though that i have to protect her while she eats because my Yellow wrasse and Potter's angel aRE PIGS!!!!!!!

I can't imagine a mandarin can survive on pods in a 29g.

Whats wrong with a 29g? It has tones of Pods and frozen foods. I have a huge pods set up with a constant supply for it. 29g is a great tank for it.
