Holey rock batman

Just wondering if anybody has tried to use holey rock as base rock in a SW fish tank? It is a Calcium Carbonte based rock out of Texas (type of limestone). It is commonly used in Chiclid takes to help buffer the PH and maintain levels at about 8.2 and to add calcium and trace minerals to the water. It is an interesting rock with numerous caves holes and shelves etc. due to rain water perculating through it for millions of years. Used as a base rock with normal live rock to seed it would something like this work?
It seems to me that it has the same chemical signature as the agronite sand that we are using in our tank all ready and for the same reason. This would just be a very large dense piece. You can google holey rock to see more info.
Just curious. Investigating what rock I would like to use. Is it worth an experiment? Thoughts.. pro/con.
By the way thanks to all for the warm weclcome to the forum.

I have used it for both cichlids, SW fish and even in my reef tanks. I know it as lace rock, but it sounds the same. For fish it should be perfect. Will not really turn live for some reason or another, but it is the best value for the bottom of aquascaping.
In the reef setting, there seems to be two schools of thought. One, go ahead and use it. 2, it may leach metal into the system. Really not a problem in fish setting.
As I said I have a total reef usage of about 5 years. I have never seen any problems directly from it.

I have been advised stongly against lacerock by Frank at Pet's Inc. He says it leeches phosphates int your system.
